Welcome Message

On behalf of the family of Hind Al-Husseini Institution, “Dar Al-Tifl Al-Arabi” in Jerusalem, I warmly welcome you to the institution’s website. It is one of the pioneering women’s charitable associations in Jerusalem, and indeed in Palestine. This institution was founded as an initiative by a Palestinian woman from Jerusalem to address the needs of children who lost their parents due to the tragic events in Deir Yassin village, near Jerusalem, in 1948. It was then that the late Hind Al-Husseini took in 55 orphaned children, providing them shelter and care in her home.

As the number of orphans grew, it became necessary to meet the increasing needs by expanding the institution’s boarding facilities. Subsequently, a daycare, kindergarten, and a primary school were established, which later developed to include all levels of education up to high school. The first graduating class of Dar Al-Tifl Al-Arabi High School completed their studies in the summer of 1967.

Since then, the institution’s Board of Trustees, in close cooperation with the management of the kindergarten, school, and its educational teams, has worked to enhance its academic standing. At the same time, ample attention has been given to extracurricular, educational, cultural, and sports activities. The association’s management has also been dedicated to empowering Jerusalemite women and enabling girls to develop their skills and capacities in various fields.

The late Hind Al-Husseini and her volunteer colleagues on the Board of Trustees did not limit their achievements to the humanitarian, educational, and academic fields. In 1978, Hind initiated the establishment of the Palestinian Heritage Folklore Museum within the association’s premises. Later, in 1982, she founded a cultural center in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood by purchasing the palace of the late Palestinian writer Mohammad Is’af Al-Nashashibi, adding it to the association’s properties, all of which were endowed for the benefit of the institution.

Finally, it is only fair to acknowledge that gratitude is due to those who contribute to the institution’s success. The generous support from benefactors in Palestine, the Arab world, and globally has played a major role in the growth, prosperity, and continuity of the institution. On behalf of myself, my colleagues leading the institution’s journey, and its beneficiaries since 1948, I extend my deepest thanks, appreciation, and gratitude.

Once again, I welcome you and invite you to learn more about your institution and to stay updated on its facilities, developments, and future initiatives, God willing.

Mahira Dajani
